Enhancing Critical Communications on Greece’s Central Motorway (Road E65)
The Othrys Tunnel, known in Greek as Σήραγγα Όθρυος, is a significant infrastructure project on the Central Greece Motorway (E65), situated between Lamia and Xyniada. This 2.9 km (1.8 mi) twin-tube tunnel, which traverses beneath Othrys Mountain, stands as the longest road tunnel on the motorway and is poised to become one of the longest in Greece.
SEE Telecom and its partner Raycap have been entrusted with the implementation of a comprehensive radio communication system to ensure the safety and efficiency of operations within the tunnel. The system includes:
- 6 FM channels equipped with Voice Break-In (VBI) capabilities.
- A duplex VHF service dedicated to Ambulance communications.
- A duplex VHF service for Maintenance operations.
- A duplex VHF service to support Police activities.
- A simplex VHF service for the Fire Brigade.
Central to the communication system’s effectiveness is the deployment of the latest version of see smart® digivas software. This advanced software not only manages the Voice Break-In feature but also adheres to the most stringent cybersecurity standards, ensuring robust and secure communication in all scenarios.
