SEE Telecom welcomes TC CONNECT for the FAT of DAB retransmission systems with emergency message insertion for Bergen road tunnels
On September 10, 2024, SEE Telecom had the honor of hosting a delegation from its long-standing Norwegian partner, TC CONNECT, at its headquarters. The visit was dedicated to the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) of cutting-edge DAB retransmission systems, equipped with emergency message insertion functionality. These systems will soon be deployed in road tunnels across the Bergen region to enhance safety and communication.
A historic partnership for Norwegian tunnel safety
The collaboration between SEE Telecom and TC CONNECT is far from new. This fruitful partnership dates back to 2012 and has been instrumental in securing 145 road tunnels across Norway, spanning 345 kilometers in total. Initially, these tunnels were equipped with FM radio retransmission systems, combined with emergency message insertion, a vital feature to ensure that drivers could receive real-time alerts and information.
Leading the DAB transition after Norway's FM switch-off
In 2017, Norway became the first country in the world to complete the switch-off of FM radio, making the transition to DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) mandatory. SEE Telecom played a pioneering role in adapting all existing systems to DAB technology, ensuring the continuity and enhancement of communication within Norwegian tunnels. This transition not only improved audio quality but also made the emergency message feature more reliable, ensuring that critical alerts reach drivers effectively.

The DAB retransmission systems tested during this FAT are a key component of tunnel safety. Designed to provide clear, high-quality digital audio broadcasts, they also allow for the seamless insertion of emergency messages.
